L engin ou plutôt les engins qui nous intéressent ont été précédés par les M3 et M6 Mais ces deux engins antichars ne sont que des hybrides. Les premiers engins antichar vraiment digne de ce nom furent les TD M10 Tout d abord il faut noter que les américains optèrent pour un engin possédant une tourelle chose peu courante à l 'époque Deuxièmement pourquoi une tourelle ouverte ?
Cette tourelle ouverte ne mettait pas les équipages à l abri de la mitraille du champ de bataille et souvent cette ouverture fut occultée sur le terrain . La tourelle ouverte pour les TD répondait à un fait très précis .Si la tourelle avait été fermée les TD seraient considérés comme des chars et non plus TD donc dépendant de la Cavalerie et non considérés comme une Arme propre
Donc après avoir éclairci le mystère de la tourelle ouverte penchons nous sur la bête .
Description
Le TD 10 Wolverine son cousin anglais Achilles et son fils M36 Jackson furent des engins entièrement nouveaux Il connut un réel succès avec un armement puissant Une modification de son blindage et la fermeture de sa tourelle en aurait fait un excellent char de bataille. Général Motor et Ford furent choisis pour produire le futur TD de l 'armée américaine En accord avec le Tank Destroyer Bord's il fut décidé de choisir le châssis du char moyen M4 comme base de départ Il fut décidé de modifier la caisse du char tout en gardant les organes moteurs. Dotée d 'un blindage anguleux la caisse reçut une tourelle qui accepte le canon de 76 mm L 'engin exista en deux versions M10 et M10 A1.Ils diffèrent par de menus détail. La différence étant invisible à l 'œil car celle ci était cachée sous le capot moteur 4993 M10 et 675 M10 A1 furent construits Mais les A1 furent conservés aux USA à des fin d 'instruction . Certains furent par la suite transformés en ravitailleurs de M10 sous le terme de M35 Full track prime mover après que la tourelle ait été enlevée. Ces chars étaient propulsés par deux moteurs Ford diesel de 500 CV Ce groupe propulseur était très fiable et offrait au char une très bonne mobilité. Les avantages du moteur jumelé étaient des plusieurs ordres Si un moteur était touché l 'autre donné encore pour permettre au char de se mettre à l 'abri pour réparation Le moteur diesel était souple peu gourmand et d'une maintenance très facile Ce char acquit par les Britanniques au titre de l accord Land and Lease fut baptisé chez eux M 10 Wolverine (glouton comme l animal )
Les caracteristiques sont les mêmes que pour l Achilles sauf au niveau de l armement avec un canon de 76mm

First you can notice that  Americans opted for a vehicle  with a open  turret uncommon thing at the time Secondly .Why this choise?
The open turret  did not  protect crews from the grapeshot  of the battlefield and often creww overshadowed the opening on campaing.
But this open  turret for the TD was responding to a very precise. If the turret had been closed the TD would be considered as tanks and TD therefore no longer dependent on the Cavalry and not considered an own Weapon So after having clarified the mystery of open turret We look on the beast.

The TD 10 as the Wolverine's English cousin and his son Achilles M36 Jackson were entirely new vehicles, it became an instant success with a powerful weapon A modification  of his  shield  and the closure of its turret would have done an excellent battle tank.
 General Motors and Ford were chosen to produce future TD of the American army
All right  with the Board's Tank Destroyer it was decided to choose the frame of the chariot M4 medium as a starting point it was decided to change the body of the tank  while keeping engines
Equipped with angular  armour the body received a turret which accepts the 76 mm gun The device existed in two versions M10 and M10 A1 they are little differences
 The difference being invisible to the eye because it was hidden under the engine bonnet
 4993 M10 and 675 were built M10 A1 But A1 were kept in the USA for crew instruction. Some were subsequently converted into tankers for M10 under the term M35 Full track prime mover after the turret has been removed.

The characteristics are the same as for the Achilles except at the level of armament with a 76mm cannon
