Elle était equipée d"un détonnateur qui explosait au contact . Sur la tete se trouve 4 "moustaches " qui sont conçues pour declancher l'explosion. Mais cette torpille avait aussi des defaut . Le principalétant que l'explosion ne pouvait se faire que sous un angle d'impact d'environ 20 degrés
La torpile s'arme après une course minimale de 250 mètres grace à une petite hélice a été montée sur le nez de la torpille. (l'eau pentrant dans la tete de la torpille fait tourner l'helice qui arme ensuite la mise à feu )

Fitted with contact pistol as follows: Contact pistols comprised of four whiskers mounted at the tip of the torpedo nose. They were designed to react to a glancing blow which detonated the warhead. Many problems were also encountered as it was discovered due to poor design, only a narrow impact angle of approximately 20 degrees was required to consistently trigger the pistol. There was also a safety device which armed the pistol only after a minimum run of 250 meters. For this, a small propeller was fitted to the nose of the torpedo. As it moved forward, rushing water would spin the propeller until it wound shut, arming the pistol.
