Aussi en 1990 fut présenté un VAB nouvelle génération. La silhouette de ce VAB diffère très peu du VAB traditionnel. Extérieurement l'avant de ce VAB est plus pointu avec des optiques et des clignotants encastrés dans la coque. La protection balistique a été accrue avec une protection des grilles d'accès au moteur avec un système anti cocktail Molotov. La sortie échappement moteur est à gauche. Les DREB (défense rapprochée des engins blindés ) sont au nombre de 6 (2x3) Intérieurement et pour être en conformité avec le Code de la Route il y a une amélioration de l 'ergométrie du poste de conduite avec un volant placé comme sur les véhicules civils
Les banquettes disparaissent au profit de sièges individuels avec ceinture de sécurité. Le revêtement intérieur est anti transpiration et on trouve une amélioration de la protection du compartiment moteur (phonique aussi). Le moteur est un nouveau moteur à 6 cylindres diesel MIDR 060226 de 250 CV accouplé à une BAV de 5 rapports
Un treuil hydraulique se trouve à l'avant et les suspensions ont été renforcées. On y troupe en option un système de régularisation de la pression des pneumatiques de l'intérieur, un surblindage de l engin est proposé. Les volets de protection en matériaux composites Ces caractéristiques sont donc un peu différentes

Cet engin est un prototype unique il aurait du être suivi d'une fabrication en série mais les contraintes budgétaires ont abouti à l'abandon de ce projet . Il est exposé à Montpellier dans la cour du Musée de l Infanterie
