Il avait son propre abri de raid aérien construit sur mesure, en briques et béton armé, dans le parking souterrain sous le bâtiment. L'abri a été construit par Démolition & Construction Co Ltd, sous la direction du cabinet Howard G de Leicester & Partners, et de l'équipement a été fourni par Norris Warming & Co Ltd. . Porchester Gate Flats is a block of luxury flats, just off the Bayswater Road, London, that was built in 1939. It had its own bespoke air raid shelter, constructed of brick and reinforced concrete, in the underground car park beneath the building. The shelter was constructed by the Demolition & Construction Co Ltd, to the design of G Howard of Leicester & Partners, and the equipment was supplied by Norris Warming & Co Ltd. Following the War, it was retained, complete with all its equipment, and the Museum acquired parts of this in 1982
Description
This consisist of a base with three filter units mounted one above the other, linked by trunking. Alonside these, is a full height piece of trunking, linked at the top, and at the base is an electric motor to operate the circulating fan. In addition, there is a bicycle attachment as an emergency stand-by if the electric motor failed for any reason.
