Les Equites Clibinarii sont des cavaliers lourds à la disposition du général romain. Ils sont destinés à appuyer une charge ou attaque amie et non pour percer les lignes ennemies Les clibinarii portent presque le meme type d'armure que les catafractarii, l'autre grosse cavalerie de l'armée romaine
Mais contrairement aux catafracarii ou à la cavalerie lourde du Moyen age ils sont utilisés pour la méle et non pour la charge car ils sont trop lourds et peu rapides Mais cela ne veut pas dire qu'ils ne pouvaient charger et plus d'un va mourrir embroché par une lance lors des charges
