Les Kaiserjäger sont recrutés  dans les régions du Tyrol et du Vorarlberg , en particulier parmi des tireurs qualifiés armés de carabines rayées ( Jägerstützen ) ,Ils ont dans l'armée impériale autrichienne un  rôle d' infanterie légère .
À la fin de 1804 l'armée autrichienne comprend une seule troupe  composé de Jäger à Innsbruck en 1801 sous le nom de " Tiroler Feld Jäger -Regiment "
Après la période napoléonienne , par la loi du 17 mai 1815, l'empereur François Ier ordonne l'organisation d'un régiment de Jäger , composée de 5.000 hommes  issus du  Tyrol ce sont les  Tiroler Kaiserjäger 1er Régiment :
Le Kaiserjäger porter un chapeau noir à large bord plié sur la tige .
Après 1821, sur e coté gauche du chapeau  est fixé un cor de chasse enmétal jaune avec l'aigle inséré  et une touffe  de plumes noires complète le chapeau .
L'uniforme est bleu - gris avec des boutons de métal jaune.
Le col , les poignets , les epaulettes et les soutaches  sont en vert . Deux fourrageres en  laine vert avec des glands suspendus sur le côté gauche  sont une distinection prouvant l'appartenance au corps des Kaiserjäger  en temps que troupe d'élite.
