Ce prototype a été commandé par les SS en Juillet 1944 à la Zahnradfabrik d’ Augsbourg
car les SS désiraient un Panzer IV avec transmission hydraulique.
Placer la transmission hydrostatique à l'arrière du char procure plus d'espace dans les compartiments de combat et de conduite
Le prototype a été construit à partir d'un Panzer IV Ausf G avec le moteur classique Maybach HL 120 TRM moteur et un deuxième moteur avec une pompe à huile pour la transmission hydraulique.
Le prototype a été testé par une unité SS sur le front de l Est et ensuite lors de la bataille des Ardennes où il a été capturé par les Américains.
Il est maintenant exposé à Aberdeen (USA)
