Durant la 1e Guerre Mondiale la 5e Division Bavaroise avec le 7e RI a servi sur le front Ouest . Combattant au début  lors de la bataille dite des Frontières elle a servi sur la Meuse et la Moselle jusqu'en Otobbre 1915  (St Mihiels Bois Brulé 2e Bataille de Champgne)
Apres une brève période de repas durant laquelle elle a été reconstituée elle rejoint le secteur de Meuse Moselle et combat dans les tranchées ceci jusqu'en Septembre 1916 . Elle est engagé brievement lors de la bataille de la Somme . Durant ces combats elle subit de lourdes pertes
Entre Octobre 1916 et 1918 elle combat en Flandres et en Artois ( Bataille Arras et Passchendaele) Apres un repos de un mois elle retourne au combat lors de l'offensive de printemps 1918  Kaiserschlacht ) et la 2e bataille de la Somme
Apres l'echec de l offensive elle s'enterrre sur ses positions jusqu'en Novembre 1918  (3e bataille de la Somme )
Ce fut une des meilleurs divisions de l'Armée Bavaroise

During World War I, the 5th Royal Bavarian Division with kgl. bayer. 7. Infanterie-Regiment Prinz Leopold served on the Western Front. It fought initially in the Battle of the Frontiers. It then served in the area between the Meuse and Moselle Rivers until October 1915, seeing action on the Meuse heights by St. Mihiel and in the Bois-brulé, and then fought in the Second Battle of Champagne.
After a brief period in reserve, the Division went in the trench lines in the Meuse-Moselle region until September 1916, and then fought briefly in the Battle of the Somme, where it suffered heavy losses. From October 1916 into 1918, the Division occupied the trench lines in Flanders and the Artois, and fought in the Battle of Arras and the Battle of Passchendaele.
After a month in reserve, it went into the 1918 German Spring Offensive, (Kaiserschlacht) fighting in the First Battle of the Somme (1918), also known as the Second Battle of the Somme (to distinguish it from the 1916 battle). It then remained on the defensive in the region until the end of the war, including fighting in the Second Battle of the Somme (1918), also known as the Third Battle of the Somme. Allied intelligence rated the division as first class, although not one of the best Bavarian divisions.
