Dans l immédiat aprés Guerre l'Esercito Italiano utilisa les surplus américains comme le Dodge 3/4 de tonnes surnommés Gippone ( Grosse Jeep) . IOn décida au début des années 50 de fournir à l' EI un matériel de conception nationale . Ce fut le OM CL 52 qui recut mui aussi le surnom de Gippone qui fut construit sur la base de l' Autocarro Legero Leoncino
Mais cet engin pouvant transporter 12 homme ne fut surtout utilisé que par les Forze dell Ordine et les Administrations
