Après la libération de la France en 1944, le nouveau gouvernement français a voulu développer de nouveaux chars modernes pour retrouver sa puissance militaire d'avant-guerre.
En 1950, Lorraine a présenté deux prototypes de canon automoteur de 155mm. L'armement se compose du modèle d'obusier de 155mm modèle 1950 monté dans une casemate fixe. Le train de roulement Lorraine, semblable à celui du canon d'assaut développé en parallèle de celui-ci , a des roues pneumatiques.
Le prototype n ° 1 (modèle 1950) possède une casemate centrale, le n ° 2 (modèle 1951) possède une casemate avancée. En 1954 une casemate rotative est à l'étude mais en 1955 la décision est prise d'adapter cet armement sur un châssis Batignolles-Chatillon.
Ce choix est logiquement la conséquence de l'abandon du canon d'assaut Lorraine dont le châssis était commun aux deux projets.
LORRAINE AUTOMOTEUR MODEL 1951: LE SURVIVANT
Aujourd'hui, dans la culture populaire, ces deux prototypes peuvent être joués dans les jeux vidéo War Thunder et World of Tanks.
Mais saviez-vous que ces chars ont survécu jusqu'à aujourd'hui?
Après l'annulation du programme d'obusier de 155mm, les 2 prototypes ont été stockés au sein de la société lorraine.
Mais dans les années 60, l'entreprise a fait faillite et a été rachetée en partie par la SNCF car l'activité principale de la compagnie était la construction de locomotives.
Les deux chars sont alors envoyés aux bases militaires de Bourges et de Fontevraud. Mais le premier prototype, le modèle 1950, subit la pire punition qui puisse lui être infligée : être transformé en cible pour de nouveaux chars français sur un champ de tir.
Mais le second char, le modèle 1951, est alors stocké dans une aire de stockage dans la base militaire de Bourges pendant 60 ans jusqu'à aujourd'hui comme vous pouvez le voir sur la photographie de la pétition.
Il appartient qu'à nous de montrer aux organisations qui peuvent le restaurer que leur histoire ne doit pas être oubliée et que leur place est dans un musée !

THE STORY OF THIS SPG

After the liberation of France in 1944, the new french government wanted to develop new modern tanks to regain its pre-war military power.
In 1950, Lorraine presented two prototypes of self-propelled gun of 155mm. The armament consists of the 155 mm howitzer model 1950 mounted in a fixed casemate. The Lorraine undercarriage, similar to that of the assault gun, has pneumatic wheels. The prototype No. 1 (model 1950) is central casemate, No. 2 (model 1951) has an advanced casemate. In 1954 a rotary casemate is under study but in 1955 the decision is made to adapt this armament on a chassis Batignolles-Chatillon. This choice is logically the consequence of the abandonment of the assault gun Lorraine whose chassis was common to both projects.

Today, in popular culture, these two prototypes can be played in War Thunder and World of Tanks video games.
But did you know that these tanks have survived until today ?
After the cancellation of 155mm howitzer program, the 2 prototypes were stored in the Lorraine company.
But in the 60s, the company was bankrupt and was bought by the SNCF (French National Railway Company), because the main activity of the company was locomotive construction.
The two tanks were then sent to the military bases of Bourges and Fontevraud. But the first prototype, the model 1950, suffer the worst punishment that can be inflicted on it : to be turned into a target for new French tanks on a firing range.
But the second tank, the model 1951, was just parked in the storage area in the Bourges Military base during 60 years like you can see on the petition photography.
It is up to all of us to show the organizations that can restore it that their story should not be forgotten and that their place is in a museum by signing and sharing this petition !
