L’Achille
L’Achille est un vaisseau de 74 canons de la classe du Téméraire

Pour ce qui concerne l’Achille ce navire a eu une carrière brève mais glorieuse car il fut construit à Rochefort entre 1803 et 1804 et a coulé lors de la bataille de Trafalgar le 20 octobre 1805

La bataille de Trafalgar met un point final au plan d’invasion de l Angleterre par Napoléon qui bien avant la bataille navale envoie la Grande Armée vers l’ Europe Centrale combattre les Russo Autrichiens . Cette campagne se terminera par la victoire d’ Austerlitz
Mais revenons à notre Achille .
Le 20 octobre 1805 L escadre Franco espagnole sous le commandement de l’amiral de Villeneuve rencontre au large du Cabo Trafalgar l’escadre Anglaise commandait par Nelson
A 6 h du matin l’Achilles en avant-garde commandé par le Capitaine de Vaisseau Louis Gabriel Denieport né à Dieppe en 1765 détecte l’escadre anglaise
L’escadre anglaise profite du désordre de la ligne franco espagnole pour barrer le T à l adversaire

L’ Achille se retrouve donc à l arrière garde ou en début de l après midi il engage le combat L'Achille s'engage toutes voiles dehors pour pallier la faible brise est pris entre deux feux, canonné à bâbord par l’HMS Defiance et à tribord par le trois ponts HMS Dreadnought qui domine l’Achille de sa masse imposante. L’Achille, canonné de toute part, ne conserve que ses bas-mâts
Rapidement sur l Achilles tous les officiers qui prennent le commandement du vaisseau sont mis hors de combat les uns après les autres

Les Britanniques, devant la résistance vaincue et le courage de l’équipage français, décident en pleine bataille de cesser le feu. Ils mettent leurs embarcations à l'eau. Ils sauvent 158 français, alors que 480 hommes sont morts
À 5h 30 l’Achille explose et s'enfonce pavillon haut. Au même moment Nelson posse son der nier soupir et aurait dit Dieu merci !... J'ai fait mon devoir
